Opening up Space in our lives is what leads to Greatness!

We all live it, the rush to get things done, moving from one task to another with our mind racing ahead to the things we plan to do, need to do and want to do.  Half listening, planning ahead, connecting the dots, our brain is rushing a million miles an hour. And somehow even at this fast pace, it seems it’s never enough; there’s always more to do and more that we want to be. We always want more; we just can’t seem to be satisfied with what is; we’re always looking ahead to what could be.

If I stop myself long enough, I can’t help but wonder if life is not passing me by.  I know I’ll never be able to recapture that precise moment in time of being with others or being alone that I mindlessly let slip through my fingers.

What if someone was to tell me that everything I want to be, to do or to achieve is right here, right now? In our work lives, in our personal lives, we have all experienced those special times when life seems to stand still. 

It can be nothing more than a regular day at work or being part of a special project when the energy is high, people are connecting, ideas are flowing, stuff is getting done, lots of laughter in the air, with an intensity that is palpable because we feel we are accomplishing something together that is bigger and better than we would have thought possible. In that moment, we are not focused on future or outcome; we just enjoying being right where we are, knowing there is no other place we’d rather be, knowing that what we are doing is the right thing with the right people. Sound impossible or too good to be true?

Not at all!  All it takes is “opening a bit of space” in our lives to notice, to pay attention, and to be in the moment of what’s happening right here, right now, alone or with others.

This is the stuff of creativity, innovation, continuous improvement, mastery and results. It’s available to each and every one of us if only we’d allow ourselves a moment to realize that what we’re looking for is here all ready.  The people we’re with and the place where we are.

Busy…ness does not create greatness.  Greatness, greatness in ourself, greatness in a team, and greatness in the world around us happens when we open up space in our lives and start to pay attention to what’s there already inside of us and outside of us wherever we are. Only then will we realize that we already have everything we need to create greatness in our lives.
