Optimizing Flow, Creating Flow

Francis has helped numerous businesses secure their future profitability by making essential changes in their manufacturing processes.

He uses the principles of Lean manufacturing or Lean production, a process largely derived from the Toyota Production System.

It centres on the concept of creating more value with less work. Based on optimizing flow, it is a popular strategic tool for companies striving for new levels of efficiency.

The Consulting Approach

One of Canada’s foremost specialists in “Lean” production practices, Francis spends time with his clients, getting to know about their goals and workflow patterns, and then assesses how they can become more productive.

“Sometimes it can be as simple as reducing the number of steps employees have to take from one work area to the next, sometimes it means joining two or more production centres into one, or eliminating or purchasing a new piece of machinery,” he says. “There is always a solution to increasing efficiency, and it helps to have outside eyes looking at the picture.

Francis also takes the time to understand the company’s external factors like hierarchy and culture and how they can impact on the efficiency process.
